FAQ
Do I need a referral to book an appointment? In most cases, no. You can book directly through our website without a referral. However, some insurance plans require a physician referral for nutrition counseling to be covered. We recommend reaching out to our office and we’ll help you figure it out.
How do I know which provider to book with? Browse our About page, each registered dietitian nutritionist has a bio that outlines their areas of specialty. Choose the provider whose expertise feels most aligned with your health concerns. If you’re unsure, our office manager can help point you in the right direction. Most of our dietitians have overlapping areas of expertise, and all of them are mentored and supported by our founder Christina—so you’re in good hands no matter who you see.
Do you offer discovery calls before booking? We don’t offer formal discovery calls, your first appointment is where the real conversation happens. That said, if you have logistical questions before booking (insurance, availability, which provider is right for you), our office manager is happy to help via phone, text, or email. For eating disorder clients or families of younger clients who may want a brief introduction before committing to a first appointment, please reach out to ask about a short introductory call.
How long is a typical appointment? Initial appointments are longer than follow-up sessions—we want the full picture, so we take the time to get it. Follow-up appointments are typically shorter and focused on reviewing your progress and adjusting your plan. Specific session lengths vary by provider and by the nature of your visit. Our office manager can give you details when you book.
Can I be seen via telehealth if I’m not on Long Island? Yes, we offer telehealth appointments across multiple states. Reach out to confirm that we’re licensed and able to see clients in your specific state before booking.
What should I bring to my first appointment? It helps to come with any recent lab results, a list of current medications and supplements, and a general sense of your health history and goals. The more context you can share, the more we can do with your first session. But don’t stress if you don’t have everything — we’ll work with whatever you’ve got.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule? Please contact our office as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellation policies vary and will be outlined when you book. You can reach us at 631-204-3375 or info@functionalnutritionrx.com.
Is my information kept private and confidential? Yes, Functional Nutrition Rx is fully HIPAA compliant. Your health information is kept private and confidential in accordance with all applicable healthcare privacy laws.
