Functional testing that finally explains why you feel the way you do

Our advanced functional testing goes beyond standard bloodwork to uncover the root causes of your symptoms — so your nutrition plan is built on real data, not assumptions.

There’s a reason standard labs keep coming back “normal” — and it’s not because nothing’s wrong.

If you’ve ever walked out of a doctor’s appointment frustrated because your bloodwork looked fine but you still feel awful, you’re not imagining things. Standard lab panels are designed to catch disease—not to identify the subtle imbalances, deficiencies, and dysfunctions that can make you feel exhausted, bloated, hormonally off, or just not like yourself.

That’s exactly where functional testing comes in.

We use advanced functional testing as a clinical tool to get an accurate picture of what’s happening inside your body. When we know what’s actually driving your symptoms, we can build a nutrition and lifestyle strategy that addresses the cause, not just the surface.

How functional testing works at Functional Nutrition Rx

Functional testing at our practice is never ordered for its own sake. Every test we recommend is chosen because the results will meaningfully inform your nutrition plan and help us get you better outcomes, faster.

Step 1: Your Initial Appointment Your first session is a comprehensive health intake—we go through your full history, your current symptoms, your goals, and any previous labs or testing you’ve had done.

Step 2: Testing Most of our functional tests are completed at home—you receive a kit, follow simple collection instructions, and send your samples directly to the lab.

Step 3: Results Review When your results come back, your registered dietitian will explain what the findings mean in plain language, how they connect to your symptoms, and how they’ll inform your nutrition and lifestyle plan.

Step 4: Your Personalized Plan This is where everything comes together. Your test results become the foundation of a nutrition protocol that’s built around your actual biology.

The functional tests we use and what they reveal

Is functional testing covered by insurance?

Functional testing is not covered by insurance, but it is HSA-eligible. We charge wholesale prices on all testing, so you’re getting access to the same high-quality labs without the inflated markup.

Functional testing is designed to answer different questions, at a level of detail that conventional panels simply weren’t built to reach. When we know exactly what’s driving your symptoms, your nutrition plan becomes a targeted intervention instead of an educated guess. For many clients, that precision is what makes the difference between spinning their wheels for another year and actually getting better.

The cost of the testing is often far less than the cumulative cost of supplements, appointments, and protocols that weren’t built on accurate information.

You’ve been guessing long enough, let’s get some answers.

Functional testing isn’t for everyone—but if you’ve been struggling with unresolved symptoms and standard labs haven’t given you clarity, it may be exactly what’s been missing from your care. Our team will help you figure out which tests make sense for your situation and how to use the results to move forward.
