Nutrition counseling that goes deeper than what you should and shouldn’t eat
Personalized, evidence-based functional nutrition counseling—covered by insurance—for anyone who’s ready to stop cycling through trial-and-error and start getting real answers.

You’ve already tried the diets. You’ve read the articles. You’ve done the research.
You’ve probably cut out gluten, tried intermittent fasting, downloaded a macro tracking app, maybe even worked with a nutritionist before. And maybe you saw some results for a while. But nothing stuck. Nothing got to the actual root of why you feel the way you do. That’s a failure of approach.
Generic nutrition advice is designed for an average person. You’re not average — you’re a specific person with a specific body, a specific health history, specific labs, and a specific life. A nutrition plan that doesn’t account for all of that isn’t really a plan for you. It’s a plan for someone who sort of looks like you on paper.
At Functional Nutrition Rx, we do things differently.
Functional nutrition counseling is an approach to nutrition care that prioritizes identifying and addressing the root causes of your symptoms.
It looks at the whole person: your diet, yes, but also your hormones, your gut health, your stress levels, your sleep, your history, and the interactions between all of these systems.
It’s nutrition care that asks why — not just what.
At Functional Nutrition Rx, every registered dietitian nutritionist on our team is trained in this approach. That means when you come to us with fatigue, digestive issues, weight that won’t budge, or a chronic condition you’re trying to manage, we’re not handing you a meal plan and sending you on your way. We’re digging into what’s actually going on — and building a strategy that addresses it.
What to Expect When You Work With Us
01
Your First Appointment
Your initial session is a comprehensive intake—typically longer than a standard nutrition appointment—because we want the full picture. We’ll go through your health history, your current symptoms, your relationship with food, your lifestyle, your stress, your sleep, any relevant labs, and your goals. By the end of your first appointment, we have a clear understanding of where you are and a direction for where we’re headed.
02
An InBody Scale
In just a few minutes, this non-invasive assessment measures your muscle mass, body fat, and hydration levels, providing a clear picture of how your body is truly functioning. With these insights, we create a personalized, food-as-medicine nutrition plan designed to support your unique goals. It’s a smarter, more empowering way to track progress and take control of your health.
03
Your Nutrition Plan
Based on everything we learn in your intake — and any functional testing that may be relevant to your situation — we build a nutrition and lifestyle plan that’s individualized. Not a template with your name on it. A plan that accounts for your food preferences, your schedule, your cultural background, your budget, and your health goals. A plan you can actually live with.
04
Ongoing Support
Getting better takes time and consistency — and we’re with you for the long haul. Follow-up appointments allow us to review your progress, adjust your plan as needed, troubleshoot challenges, and keep building on what’s working. We also offer monthly group nutrition seminars on rotating health topics, covered by insurance, as an additional layer of education and community support.

Our Philosophy: Real Food, Real Life, Real Results
We believe that nutrition should nourish your life — not consume it. We’re not here to give you a list of foods you can never eat again or make you feel guilty about the way you’ve been eating. We’re here to help you understand your body better, make choices that support how you feel, and build habits that last.
FAQ
What’s the difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist? A registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) is a licensed healthcare professional with a minimum of a master’s degree, supervised clinical practice hours, and a national board exam. The title “nutritionist” is unregulated in many states — meaning anyone can use it. When you work with a provider at Functional Nutrition Rx, you’re working with a credentialed RDN.
How many appointments will I need? This varies depending on your health concerns, your goals, and how your body responds. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all answer here any more than we believe in a one-size-fits-all nutrition plan. We’ll give you a realistic picture after your first appointment.
Do I need a doctor’s referral? In most cases, no. However, some insurance plans may require a referral for nutrition counseling to be covered. We recommend checking with your insurance before booking. Our team can help with this process.
What insurance do you accept? 1199SEIU, Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, NYCEPPO, Healthfirst, Meritain, NYSHIP, UnitedHealthcare, Oxford, Northwell, and Medicare.
